This sharing is about interesting info regarding the science and art of traditional Malay houses at one time. Did you know that the architect of Malay History is very clever in building a home that reflects the suitability of the weather and the local culture and lifestyle, and the traditional Malay house has been hailed as the best architecture in the world.
So, when is this Malay traditional house debut in Malaya? Actually Malay Traditional House is among the earliest architecture built in the archipelago. And this construction has undergone several transformational processes over thousands of years. Until now, we can also notice that our traditional house has changed a lot physically little by little due to the factor of its carpentry art passed down from generation to generation, and from generation to generation.
In addition, the art and wisdom of traditional houses that represent each unique ethnic breakdown of the Malay Archipelago that exists in this country. As we can see, in the Malaysian state of our own such as Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and so our land is brought and differences of traditional Malay houses identity of its own.
So here I'll peel one at home Malay identity that is clearly related to science and the arts.
First and foremost is the traditional technology of natural cooling or ventilation. Malaysia due to weather factors, namely the tropical climate was hot and humid is the cause contributing to the design of the house wither more open to allow the flow of air into the house well. For example, the presence of many windows adds good ventilation as well as vents at the top of the windows and roof have also been designed for maximum comfort indoors. On the outside, the traditional house designed to be lifted on a pillar is intended to provide a wind path at the bottom of the house that can cool the floor, in addition it is also a solution from the house sinking in the event of flooding,
The second is to apply a smart shading device. As we can see, the unique design of the roof of the house has dominated the Malay identity and designed appropriately for shade and cover the problem of the heat and glare. For example, the roof of Malay vernacular, in the projection of the width of the roof serves to block sunlight directly into homes and openwork carving art or called Ande-Ande at the end of the roof is designed to reduce the glare.
And the last, is the use of building materials from natural sources. Materials used in the French landscape is wood, rattan, roots, stems, and foliage, which had earlier acquired by the Malays of nearby forest resources. Typically, wood is used as the backbone to building structures, while rattan and roots are used as fasteners, wood or betel nut stems as floors, bamboo and sage leaves or nipah as walls and roofs. Therefore, the use of natural materials is a Malay traditional house that looks more unique identity and the existence of a Malay house built on a symbolic use of wood as an environmentally friendly home architecture.
So with that, so far only is my analysis of the science and the art of traditional Malay houses. In conclusion, as we already know how genius architect wither before where creative minds of the Malays inherited by artisans skilled already generate the architectural design is not only beautiful but delicate and rich in philosophy and science, which implied that easy generally understood.
