We start with greetings & basic Japanese phrases. First, Konnichiwa, Konnichiwa is the both formal and informal way to say hello in Japanese. It's a pretty broad way of greeting, that also can apply to morning, noon and afternoon. Like other greeting words to use in time are (Ohayou Gozaimasu) for Good Morning, (Konbanwa) for Good Evening, (Oyasuminasai) for Good Night, (Sayounara) for Goodbye.
Before we start conversation, we begin with introducing our self first briefly and just make it simple. Like tell them your name, for example my name is Filzah so in japanese language we can say (Watashi no namae wa Firuza desu.) which means my name is Filza Then, if I want to tell Where I from? then say (Marēshia kara kimashita.) I'm from Malaysia. So then, it's nice for you to continue your conversation.
Now let's we go to the situation when we are on Ryoko, or traveling.
First, Asking for directions. For example we put the situation when we want to go to basutei means bus stop, we can use the phrase of...
(Basutei wa doko desu ka?) which means Where is the bus stop? its same if asking for subway, we can say (Chikatetsu wa doko desu ka?) Where is the subway? Then, the question for to sure where the bus will head to, we can ask, (Kono basu wa osaka ni ikimasu ka?) which means Does this bus go to Osaka? Its same if asking for Tokyo, (Kono basu wa Tokyo ni ikimasu ka?) which means Does this bus go to Tokyo?. So from that you can use this phrase if you want to make sure that the bus or train in front of you is headed to where you think it is. And that's all for the first situation,
For the second situation is Eating and Drinking. For example, we want to ask for menu we can say (Menyuu o onegai shimasu) which means The menu, please. If we want to ask for vegeterian food in japanese we can ask (Bejitarian youno ryouri ga arimasu ka?) Do you have a vegetarian dish? That's for the food, how about the drinks? Let say if we want a glass of water we can order (Mizu o onegai shimasu) means A glass of water, please. or we want to order for rice we can use the same sentence, we can ask (Gohan o onegai shimasu) means a bowl of rice, please. So, we can use these phrases, and then you should be in and out of a restaurant without any hiccup. That's for in restaurant situation.
And how about the situation when we going for shopping. For example we go to convenience store, to find the item we're looking for such as Okashi, the sweets, we can ask (Okashi wa doko desu ka?) “Where are the sweets?” then how many sweet we want? then we can say (Goko hoshii desu.) I'd like to have five of the sweets, so its to explain how many of something that you want to buy. Then asking about the price we can use the phrase of (Kore wa Ikura desu ka?) means How much is this? we can use this phrase in many situations, so it’s a convenient phrase to remember. Then during paying we can ask (Kaado wa tsukaemasu ka?) Can I pay by card? so use this to ask if you can pay by using your credit or debit card. Then end the conversation with (Arigatou gozaimasu) that means Thank you which that will show you the politeness.
